An Overview of Activities

Activities are the who, where, and when of the church’s classes, groups, and fellowships.  When you’re looking to group people who gather together, we’ll set up an Activity.  Each Activity is given its own Activity Number and Description that it is known by.  With Activities, Empower tracks attendance and keep up with detailed data for groups.

In Empower, we keep track of both Activities and Events.  Before we walk further through the Activities, make sure you are familiar with the difference between the two.  An explanation can be found by reading the Activities vs. Events support article.  Here is an excerpt from that article briefly describing the difference.

Activities represent the different groups in your church- specifically where it is beneficial to keep track of roles, attendance, and more.  These include both organized groups and informal groups, like those with share skills or hobbies.

Events
might include multiple activities.  Events as a rule of thumb are the gatherings that are “special events” or recurring events that contain more than one group participating.

Let’s take a closer look at Activities.  Navigate to the Activities page by clicking on the Membership tab in the Top Menu, then click on the Activities icon.

You will then be taken to the Activities page.  On the left-hand side, in the Navigation Pane, you will find all of the Activities that have been set up for your congregation.  Clicking on these titles will bring up their profile in the Detail Pane.

Members

The Members profile tab will display all of the members that have been assigned to that Activity. We walk through the Different Ways to Add Members to Activities here. The details will summarize the participants’ names, Role in the activity when they will promote, and when they began participating, and (if applicable) when they stopped participating or promoted.

The Members list keeps track of both current and past members.

You can filter the list by clicking the
in the top right corner of each column header.

Attendance

Under the Attendance profile tab, you will find past attendance records for the selected Activity.  There are two options for viewing the recorded attendance, Graph and Details view.

In the Details view, you will see a chart detailing the Date, Related Event, and the number of attendees for that gathering.

In the Graph view, the details are shown in bar and line graphs.  To change the date range and the attendee parameters, click and slide the grey handles to the left and bottom of the data.

Events (on Activities page)

Clicking on the Events profile tab, you will find a calendar showing each Event that particular Activity is a part of.  Let’s say that you had a Sunday School class created under Activities and a Sunday School event reoccurring each Sunday morning.  The Sunday School would be seen on the calendar when you clicked on the Events profile tab.

You can also add an Event for that particular activity from this tab.  For more information on creating an Event, see our support article on An Overview of Events.

Setup

The Setup profile tab on the Activities page is where you can see and edit details about the Activity itself.  A variety of different fields allow you to customize the Activity.

For more information about the Activities set up, see our Adding a New Activity support article here.
